Kamau Kujichagulia

Kamau Kujichagulia

Board of Trustees Member
Kamau Kujichagulia has been a staple in the Trenton community for the past five decades. He attended Rutgers University (1972-77) where he studied Microbiology. In 1992, he launched (published) the Nubian News, the only Black owned and operated weekly newspaper in the state of New Jersey. The Nubian News is printed in English and Spanish and is the only bilingual newspaper in New Jersey, headquartered in Trenton for over 31 years.

The Nubian News has covered topics peculiar to Black, Brown, and Latin-X people. Under Kamau’s leadership, the newspaper has always been outspoken about  Black on Black crime. Kamau has always been committed to holding our local politicians accountable to quality of life issues such as trash collection, boarded up houses, gang violence and inferior / inadequate public education. You never had to wonder or guess about what mattered to him because the Nubian News always tackled the controversial and highly sensitive issues impacting people of color in Trenton.

Kamau’s love and passion for engaging the citizenry of Trenton didn’t stop with the publication of the Nubian News! Oh,no !! He has now embarked upon his own podcast (video cast) brought about by the producers of the Nubian News called “On the Case” with Kamau Kujichagulia. It airs every Thursday evening at 8 pm (live on Facebook/YouTube) and showcases local personalities who have an intimate connection with the Trenton community. His quests share their vision(s) for Trenton. They talk about what they think is the best way to get from where we (Trenton) are to where we want to go. Kamau has interviewed “notables” such as former City Council President (and Mayoral candidate) Kathy McBride, Algernon Ward, candidate for the North Ward, Atalaya Armstrong, City Council candidate for the West Ward, Carl McCall, local real estate broker (Hundley Real Estate), Jasi Edwards, Councilwoman-Elect (At Large), and Crystal Feliciano, Councilwoman-Elect (At Large), Trenton City Council. Kamau is a valued trustee member for the North Clinton Ave. Benevolence Project.
